Friday's PPT

Here is the PPT from Friday's class. If you were absent, you should do the DEAW. Also, you should schedule a time to make-up the quiz.

Have a great weekend!

Friday, March 30th

Hello!

First, sorry about the sales people today! I didn't know they were making a sales pitch for their academy. I thought they were from Sungshin. I think they tricked me with a Sungshin envelope! But...even though my Korean is terrible, I think I figured out they were trying to get you to go to their academy.

Second, to clarify homework: you don't need to write a blog post this weekend. If you are behind in posting, you can catch up. And, of course, you are always free to post anytime!

If you didn't comment on one of the blog posts about a free topic (last homework), you should read one and comment (put your name in the comment so I can give you credit).

Other homework: Just keep doing 5 vocabulary words each week. And...read 1 or 2 books and take the quiz(zes) (or complete Reaction Report(s)) before our next class.

Have a great weekend!

Monkey's Paw Part 2

I made a smaller file, so you can also access it below if you still need it.

Also, great work on your blogs! I still need to comment, but I see you are all doing well and writing some interesting things! Good work!

Reminder

Friday's homework: each person in each group writes a blog entry on a topic of their choice. It was due on Sunday, but you can still receive credit for the writing if you do it by Tuesday at 6pm. You should also comment on someone's blog entry.

Right now, 5 Girls is doing the best on the assignment. Check out their blog entries about music here:

A couple other students have done the assignment well, but as a group, this is the best example so far this week.

Remember: 40% of your grade is the writing you do. Each week I keep a record of who did their blog writing, so it is important to write something.

Website

Hello!

I just found this website: allkpop. It could be good practice to read about K-pop in English. I'm planning to visit it so I can learn more about Korean pop culture.

See you Wednesday!

Moodle Quizzes

I fixed some things on Moodle. If you failed a quiz, you can retake it one time now. Your failed quizzes were deleted.

Also, if you couldn't access a quiz, try again. You should be able to find them now.

Starting now, only read books from the level 2 and level 3 shelves. Those will be the only ones you can take quizzes for. The level 1 shelf is too easy for level 3 students. Talk to me privately if you have a special circumstance.

Have a great weekend!

Professor Trey

p.s. We're winning on words read now! Good work!

Moodle

Hello!

Another clarifying point: you can only take a Moodle quiz 1 time in 24 hours.

I'm glad to see many of you have taken a quiz. Keep going! After 24 hours of course :).

Great Work!

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading through your blog homework and comments. I saw some great comments. I'm glad to see you are interacting and writing in English!

I haven't finished commenting yet, so don't worry if you didn't get any feedback from me on your homework yet. I will be leaving more comments tomorrow and Tuesday.

Keep up the good work!

Professor Trey

Important Notice Regarding Blogs and Blogging

Hello Class,

1. Please check this blog regularly for updates. I suggest checking it 2-3 times a week.

2. Please read the comments to engage with English, your classmates, and me. Starting now, everyone should be commenting on one entry each week.

3. I don't have blogs for 2 groups still. Those 2 groups are behind. You need to speak to me and get help if there is a problem. If you don't see your blog on the right side of this page, I don't know about it. I have commented on every introduction. If I haven't commented, I didn't see your entry.

4. One group has a blog, but no introductions. Please do your introductions immediately. Please speak to me if there is a problem.

5. Remember: the writing you do on your blogs is 10% of your final grade. Everyone should be participating. Not everyone will get an A, and not participating is not A work.

As always, if you have any questions or confusion, please speak to me. I have teaching assistants who can translate if you are worried about speaking in English.

I will post the PPT from Friday's class by Sunday.

Guideline for Commenting on Blogs

Hi Class!

I realized I did not clearly explain my expectations of blog commenting. I gave an example, "Great introduction." However, I don't want you to only say "great introduction."

Try to find something that you can connect with. Maybe the writer likes something that you like too. Your comment should be specific, for example:

Hi Trey,
I like nature too. Have you been to Naksan behind Daehangno? It is a good place to walk and see the city and Namsan Tower in the distance. Spring is coming, so taking walks will be fun soon!
Have a great weekend!
Erika
*note: sign your name, so the writer and I know who posted the comment
Also, don't worry about your English not being perfect. The goal is communication, not perfection. Everyone understands that you make mistakes in a second language.

I also uploaded the TOEIC information and the syllabus to the Sungshin web portal. If you know how to use the portal, you can find them there.

I'm so glad some of you were asking questions today!

See you all on Friday!

Day 3

Hello and Happy Friday!

Thanks for your patience today during the projector problem and thanks to the student who called the repairman! It's not always easy living in a country where you don't speak the language much. I have studied Korean a little, but my Korean is very basic (I can say "hello, goodbye, thank you, I'm American, I'm a teacher," some numbers, and a few other words and phrases - I'm happy I learned to read Korean, but it's not so helpful when I don't know the vocabulary!). So....I appreciate your help!

Tonight's post is mainly to give you the PPT from today's class. If you were absent, you need to view it to keep up to date. That reminds me! When you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to ask your group members or me what you missed! You are still responsible for the day's assignments. That reminds me! The new students need to complete the assessment from Wednesday and your name cards. Please get those from me next class.

Here's today's PPT:

Have a great weekend!

Week 2

Hello Class!

I hope everyone is enjoying their first couple weeks of university life! I know it can be stressful, but it is also exciting as you make new friends and have new experiences!

Here are some important notices:

1. We will have 2 new class members. Please welcome them. They will need to join a group.
2. Only 1 person from our class will change to another class. Check your email. I sent an email to the person who is changing. Everyone except the person I emailed should buy this book before next Wednesday:

4. If you don't have a group yet, we need to get you a group on Friday.
5. If you haven't started your blog yet, your group needs to start a blog and write your introductions. The 4 groups who already wrote their blogs have made a good first impression!
6. Below are the two PPTs from our first 2 classes. Please have a look if you are new to class or were absent:
